T & S Piano Tuning & Service works exclusively on restoring and tuning vintage instruments. While, we do use new steel and copper wound strings, and replace older pinblocks with new ones, we are not creating new pianos, but rather preserve instruments that are already here. All of the lumber required for the frame, soundboard and case has already been felled. All of the ore required to create the iron plate has been mined and refined. We are not only preserving part of our own history, but also helping to protect our environment. Many of the processes associated with the manufacturing of new pianos are highly toxic, whether it is the creation of 'MDF' chipboard or the polyester finishes. At T & S Piano Tuning & Service, we are proud that our environmental 'footprint' is comparatively small. We dispose only a few pounds of old piano materials and maintain a small workshop.
